The Forbidden Island:
Niihau is the smallest of Hawaii’s inhabited islands. The island is known by its nickname of the ‘Forbidden Island’ as it is generally off-limits to the public, and only relatives of the island’s owners and guests are allowed to step foot on the land. The 4.9 million-year-old Island of Niihau is approximately 6 miles wide and 18 miles long and has only a few hundred permanent residents, almost all of whom are native Hawaiians. Our Niihau adventure offers an up-close look at the coast of Niihau and allows you to swim, snorkel, and even scuba dive in its seldom-explored crystal-clear waters. I highly recommend the 7.5 hour Niihau snorkel and Napali Coast excursion. Captain Joe, Kealoha, and Lia were amazing hosts. The breakfast, lunch, snacks, and drinks were delicious. During our snorkel session, 7 monk seals decided to join us. We tried to keep our distance because we are in the wild. While heading across the channel from Niihau to the Napali coastline we saw an eating frenzy of Rough-toothed dolphins. Captain Joe shared a lot of historical information and gave us plenty of time to capture the best pictures. Captain Joe also had an amazing music playlist. I can’t wait to go again, next time I’m in Kauai.
