Kauai’s
Weather
Kauai’s
weather is very unpredictable. Locals as well as visitors
have given up on trying to predict what mother nature
might have in store. Every year differs from the one before.
Weeks of sunshine during the winter months are not uncommon, yet weeks of rain wouldn’t surprise any one who
has spent time on this tropical island. You can expect
an average temperature of 75 degrees year round. The summer
and spring seasons are ideal for visiting Kauai, however,
it will be more crowded and slightly more expensive. As
for Fall and Winter, you may be lucky and only see the
occasional tropical shower, better known as Hawaiian Sunshine.
Higher elevations, like the Kokee State Park which is
at 3,600 feet will be about 10 degrees cooler than the
day at the beach.
Kauai's Climate
Kauai is subtropical despite what its latitude would indicate. Humidity and temperatures are not as extreme as you would find in a true tropical environment. Average temperatures along the coastline stay around 80 degrees in the spring and summer and about 75 degrees the remaining months of the year.
The west side of Kauai also known as the dry side sees less than 20 inches a rain a year with the north shore receiving an average of 45 inches of rain a year. Mount Waialeale is known as the wettest spot on Earth with a mere 450 inches of rain a year. Don’t worry even if it is raining at the highest peak on the island you will always find sunshine along the coast.
Kauai’s weather stays consistently moderate throughout the year because of the wonderful trade winds that blow from the northeast at 5 -15 mph. This keeps Kauai pleasant even on days when the temperatures and humidity rise above the 80’s.
